Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the modalities of Oriental medicine. It consists primarily of the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of 2000 years, and there are more than 1000 known acupoints. In the past three decades, electromagnetic research has confirmed the existence and location of these points. Used alone or in conjunction with other treatments, acupuncture can be effective in the treatment of many different conditions.

 

In an official report, Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials, the World Health Organization (WHO) lists the following symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been shown through controlled trials to be treated effectively by acupuncture:

 

  • Low Back Pain

  • Neck Pain

  • Sciatica

  • Tennis Elbow

  • Knee Pain

  • Periarthritis of the Shoulder

  • Sprains

  • Facial Pain (Including Craniomandibular Disorders)

  • Headache

  • Dental Pain

  • Temporomandibular (TMJ) Dysfunction

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Induction of Labor
