What is Laser Therapy?

Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT) is the use of red and infrared light to enhance the body’s natural healing process.

How does laser therapy work?

The light source is placed in contact with the skin, allowing the light energy (photons) to penetrate tissue. These photons are absorbed by a variety of chromophores (light absorbing molecules) within the cell. Light energy is transformed into biochemical energy resulting in normal cellular function.

Effects of Light on Cells

• Release of endorphins, serotonin

• Improves circulation (promotes angiogenesis - formation of new blood vessels)

• Reduces scar tissue

• Improves nerve conduction

• Stimulates the immune system

 

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the presenting problem and the individual’s response to therapy. In a recent clinical report summarizing over 1000 patients treated with the BioFlex Professional LILT system, at time of discharge, patients had averaged fewer than 10 treatments to resolve their condition completely.
 

Will my insurance pay for my treatments?

Laser therapy is a therapeutic modality used by medical professionals to treat pain. It is often covered as part of the treatment plan prescribed by your medical professional. At Mount Pearl Wellness Centre, chiropractic and acupuncture professionals will administer laser therapy treatments.

 

Are there side effects associated with the BioFlex laser?

BioFlex laser therapy is non-toxic and non-invasive, and has no known side-effects.

 

What is the cost of Laser treatments?

We charge $50.00 per half hour of treatment, $75.00 for 45 minutes of treatment and $100.00 for 60 minutes for each BioFlex Professional LILT unit involved in the treatment.
